Hi Rob. Thank you (and Miss Divine) for replying. I thought you would appreciate his musical magnitude. My musical education began with Davy Graham, along with Bert Jansch, John Renbourn et al, and I have happy memories of being completely spellbound by his playing.
The story of your friend having lessons with him reminded me of tales I'd heard about him being a seriously scary teacher because the breadth and depth of his musical knowledge was just boundless. One story was that if his pupil tested his patience, he'd just put a record on and go down the pub.
I'm sorry you caught him on a bad day. Here's a little clip of him on a good day... http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=cFB6xj1xHnM

But I wondered how much his music was valued in the States. I know he influenced people like Steven Stills and Paul Simon and I wondered if he and Jerry ever met. I can imagine them as kindred souls.

(P.N. Thank you for your kind words. It's nice to get affirmation from someone whose writing I always enjoy and admire. Things are mostly well with me these days...mainly because I've now got a steady job which I'm actually enjoying although it means I'm not able to tune into the forum as much as before...always a price to pay.
Anyway, I read of your recent woes...and I trust the current economic climate is not dampening your irrepressible spirit one bit)
